Albany: BikeWorldUSA, manufacturer of numerous noisy children’s toys, is the winner of this month’s Noisy Dozen award from Noise Free America. BikeWorldUSA, located in Scotia, New York, peddles noise-related products to get kids into the noise-making lifestyle at at early age.

BikeWorldUSA’s latest creation is the “motorcycle noise maker bicycle horn,” for kids. Selling for the low, low price of $13.99, this noisy toy “sounds just like a motorcycle!” and is “great for kids or adults!” The product is “super! It makes a really cool revving sound. For bicycle use. No batteries required. Slides on the handlebar in place of one of your grips. Black motorcycle sound bicycle horn.”

One product reviewer stated, “My son had his put on today and hasn’t stopped playing with it yet. Very enjoyable for him. Definitely a kid pleaser.” Another stated, “Easy for my husband to add to our son’s new bike and he has more fun making motorcycle noises with it. Another parent boasted, “Super way to ‘rev’ up a bike’s bike and make him feel like he’s ‘Big Stuff.’ Totally pleased with this for our motorcycle-crazed 3 1/2 year old.”

BikeWorldUSA doesn’t stop with the motorcycle noise maker bicycle horn. It also offers such noisy products as horn bugles, the “Megan Horn,” and the two-tone black musical horn. There are also squeeze horns devoted to snakes, crocodiles, elephants, frogs, cats, and penguins.

Ted Rueter, Noise Free America’s director, commented that “the motorcycle noise maker bicycle horn is simply irresponsible. The noise industrial complex is attempting to get kids into noise-making at a very early age. For a child to be ‘motorcycle-crazed’ at age 3 1/2 is pathetic. Kids should not need to ‘rev up’ motorcycle sounds in order to feel like they are ‘big stuff.’ ”

According to Rueter, “Unfortunately, kids are bombarded with noise. They get blasted by loud television commercials and loud movies. They get assaulted by noise at stores, restaurants, and shopping malls. Attending a sports stadium can be a dangerous experience for a child, because of thunderous noise levels. Kids are bombarded by leaf blower noise, boom car noise, and motorcycle noise. The last thing that parents should be doing is encouraging kids to enjoy making noise. Noise is dangerous to children and other living creatures.”

Noise Free America is a national non-profit organization devoted to noise reduction. Past “winners” of the Noisy Dozen award include the pocket motorcycle industry, the whirly wind leaf blower, and America’s schools.
