The N.C. House Transportation Committee just passed HB1050, titled “DOT/No Discrimination Against Motorcyclists.”

Bill sponsor, Rep. John Torbett, R-Gaston, asserts that motorcyclists are being denied entry to some parking garages. The bill deems that unlawful “discrimination.”

The bill would bar publicly owned parking garages from banning motorcyclists and requires any parking lot built after July 1 using state or local funds to make “reasonable accommodations” for motorcycles.

Why is that necessary?

Motorcycles are currently allowed to park in parking spaces for motor vehicles.

There is no rational reason to enact motorcycle “discrimination” laws.
