A special interest group, Noise Free America, boasts of having met with legislators in North Carolina about enacting legislation “against loud motorcycles” and claims that at least one legislator has agreed to sponsor the bill. Noise Free America claims to have chapters in 25 states and D.C., including one in North Carolina, and describes its mission as “fighting noise pollution, especially from boom cars, barking dogs, car alarms, leaf blowers, and motorcycles.” Noise abatement in North Carolina has historically been and should remain the purview of local government ordinances, but it appears that motorcyclists may have to rally to defeat this ill-advised legislation if and when it appears in the 2013 session.
