Dear Rev. Sharpton,
I am writing to share some information about Congressman Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Committee on Ovesight and Government reform. I am the founder and director of Noise Free America, a national 501c3 organization devoted to noise reduction. Our web site is www.noisefree.org.
Congressman Issa is often described as the owner of a car alarm company. This is only part of the story. Issa made most of his millions as the owner of several companies which manufacturer “boom car” equipment–obnoxiously loud car stereos which cause violent, and unending noise. Issa is the founder of Directed Electronics and Viper car audio. Issa is a proud member of the Congressional Automotive, Performance,and Motorsports Caucus, which promotes legalizing “hot rod” equipment on city streets. The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), which represents the $26 billion hot rod industry, calls Issa “one of our own.”
No one has done more than Darrell Issa to increase noise levels in this country. Because of the noise industry’s ruthless promotion of sonic terror, millions of children have no quiet place to sleep or study. Excessive noise levels also contribute to chronic fatigue, hearing loss, and sleep deprivation.
The advertising campaigns of Issa’s companies demonstrated his commitment to aggressive noisemaking:
-Orion High Performance Car Audio: “Powered by Obnoxious Attitude.” Subwoofers That Will Command respect on the Streets.” “Be Loud. Be Obnoxious.”
-VIPER Audio: “Cold Blooded.” “Violent Fury and Multi-Channel Mayhem.” “No Escape From the Hellacious Pounding the Subwoofers and the Aggressive In Your Face Power.” “No One Dares Come Close.”

It is simply amazing that a high-ranking member of the United States Congress is such a prominent member of the noise-industrial complex. I doubt that Issa’s constituents know that he actively promotes the destruction of their communities.
