Appleton (Wisconsin) Post-Crescent

October 2, 2016

The summer season of going to our parks is now coming to a close. I want to thank the drivers of bloated motorcycles and their riders, loud pipe cars and diesel trucks with ‘performance options” for ruining each visit I have made to these parks this and other years.

There are no noise limitations within the parks and no consideration on the part of Harley riders and others exercising their ‘rights’ to make as much noise in the park setting or on a bordering street as they can.

This is my request: that all municipalities institute anti-noise ordinances in public parks.

Appleton created the only city non smoking ordinance in the state. At that time, the
specious argument of ‘smokers rights’ was raised and shot down. There are no noise maker’s rights either. It pollutes the public realm which is not in any way an exclusive preserve of sport vehicle riders.

Support a quiet parks resolution with your city council representative.
